Job Responsibilities

As a forklift operator in Ontario, you are responsible for the relocation of materials to a designated storage area. Because of the variety of work environments and the number of positions available, you can choose the job that’s best for you. In addition, forklift operators also can be expected to:

Types of Forklifts

As a forklift operator, you may work on any of the following types of forklifts:

  • Counterbalance
  • Hand pallet trucks
  • Telescopic handlers
  • Side loading trucks
  • Reach trucks

Hours per Week

Typical full-time hours can range between 35 hours and 42 hours per week. Shift work is common for forklift operators, and overtime is often available.

Working Environment

As a forklift operator, you will generally work inside, in a warehouse or factory environment, or outside, in an airport, port, or yard.

Salary

Depending on experience, salary is usually within the $15 – $20 per hour range.
